An applicant must:

  • Be primarily supported by the employee.
  • Plan to attend full-time (12 credit hours or equivalent) and be able to meet admission standards to an acceptable education institution.
  • Have a high school diploma or its equivalent at the time the scholarship is awarded or a confirmed high school graduation date within the application year.

What educational institutions do the scholarships include?  The recipient may select any recognized, accredited community college, four-year college or university, public or private, which awards credits towards a bachelor’s degree or its equivalent. Recipients have the liberty to change educational institutions at any time.

How much is the scholarship? $5,000 per academic year ($2,500 per semester)

How does a student apply? The applicant must complete the Scholarship Application and submit all necessary paperwork. Completed scholarship applications must be submitted by Friday, April 25, 2025.

How are the Transocean Scholars selected? Scholarship recipients are selected by the Scholarship Committee, which is an independent group of individuals, not associated with Transocean Offshore Deepwater Drilling Inc., or its respective subsidiaries. The Committee decides on the combination of the following:

1.   Academic performance

2.   Results of SAT and/or ACT test scores, if applicable

3.   Leadership and character as demonstrated through information provided on the application, related forms and personal essay.

Can a scholarship be renewed? Yes. A Transocean Scholar who wants to renew the scholarship must provide an official transcript reflecting a minimum grade point average of 2.5 out of 4.0 or the equivalent per semester, and the courses enrolled in the current semester.

Are there restrictions on which courses of study will be covered by the scholarship? No. The recipient has the liberty to use the scholarship in pursuit of any course of study and may change course of study at any time.

What if the recipient decides to join the military while receiving the scholarship? If a recipient notifies the Committee that he/she plans to join the armed forces, the scholarship will be suspended and held. Once the recipient notifies the Committee that he/she has received a discharge (other than dishonorable discharge) and has resumed full-time study within six months of discharge at an acceptable institution, the scholarship will be reinstated.

Also, if a student receives prior approval from the Committee, he/she may remain out of school for up to one year and have the scholarship reinstated upon return to full-time study.

Under what conditions will the scholarship be terminated or suspended? The scholarship may be suspended or terminated if the student fails to meet the requirement for renewal, uses the money for purposes other than higher education, or is placed on disciplinary probation by the college or university.

When will I find out if my child was selected for the scholarship? You and your child will receive notification in May following the Scholarship Committee's selections.
